Innovation

We employ cutting-edge technology in innovative heliciculture, or snail farming, ensuring the production of the highest quality mucin without harm.

Our gentle harvesting methods preserve the bioactive properties essential for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, while maintaining ethical standards.

Our bio-technical farming practices promote sustainability by utilizing every part of the snail. From escargot sales, to calcium-rich compost from shells, this zero-waste philosophy highlights our commitment to environmental responsibility.

We remove snails from local Ohio farms by harvesting them ethically, and bring them back to D & D BioTech Farms, LLC to be added to our breeding crops. We geo-tag the locations in order to track the breeding, to maintain consistency.

Our Philosophy

“Ethical sourcing is not just a practice; it's our promise to the environment and future generations.”

Why Snails...

THE INDUSTRY PROBLEM

Import Dependency

The U.S. has ZERO large scale, cruelty-free, mucin producers. None. No American producers.

The United States relies on imports for 99.9% snail mucin, mainly from South Korea, Europe, Thailand, and Nigeria.

Extraction Quality Issues

High-stress extraction methods increase mucin quantity, but lower product quality and ethical standards.

Some producers still use a kill method to this day.

Ethical Transparency Gap

Lack of transparency in the industry raises ethical concerns despite labels claiming cruelty-free status.

No farms are offering video transparency.

Our Solution

Ethical Sourcing Practices

Ethical harvesting from local Ohio Farms

Sustainable Farming Environment. Zero waste.

Meat can be sold as escargot, or used in animal feed.

Shells and waste can be ground for calcium compost.

High-Quality Mucin Harvesting

Leadership in Sustainable Beauty

Cruelty-free methods with no starvation or electric shocks.

Gentle harvesting produces mucin with the highest bioactive peptide levels for cosmetic and pharmaceutical use.

Transparency

This ethical approach, along with video monitoring, sets our brand apart as a leader in sustainable and cruelty-free products.

Certifications are Key

Acquiring certifications from P.E.T.A. and Leaping Bunny provides gold standard levels of cruelty-free production.

COSMOS for organic feed.

ECOCERT for responsible sourcing and humane handling.

ISO 9001/HACCP for quality management audits.

ISO 22716 certification for handling of products.

CoA Certificates of Analysis for transparency.

(GMP) Good Manufacturing Practices from sourcing to storage.

Each certification guides us into the emerging pharmaceutical market.

Packaging Uses

Snail mucin is being researched as an eco-friendly additive to enhance cellulose-based, biodegradable packaging designed to replace plastic films. When incorporated into materials like hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), it improves moisture absorption, UV barrier properties, and mechanical strength, making it a viable component in sustainable, edible, or disposable packaging.

Key findings regarding snail mucus in packaging applications:

  • Enhanced Properties: Snail slime acts as a, biogenic material, increasing the stability and adhesion of composite films, acting as a plasticizer to improve elasticity.

  • Biodegradable Alternative: These snail-incorporated films are seen as a  disposable, eco-friendly alternatives to traditional plastic packaging.

  • Material Science: Research focuses on combining snail mucus with cellulose derivatives to strengthen food preservation packaging.

  • Improved Barriers: The addition of snail slime increases UV-vis light barriers and helps reduce the solubility of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) films, which is vital for maintaining packaging integrity.

Context on Related Sustainable Packaging: Alternative plastics

  • Paptic is a separate, already-in-use material used as a renewable, recyclable, and durable replacement for plastic in dry food packaging.

  • Chitin nanofibers (often derived from shellfish waste) combined with cellulose are also being used to create strong, transparent, and compostable films to replace plastic, with a focus on creating strong oxygen barriers.

Adding snail mucin with these wonderful ideas makes them easier to produce.

Problem is, there is not enough snail mucin being processed in the entire world to handle the emerging cosmetic market, let alone pharmaceutical and alternative plastics markets.
